About Jon Press

Jon Press has played guitar, banjo, mandolin and bass since his misspent youth in the 1970s. He regularly performed in public for many years and ran a mobile recording studio during the 1980s. More recently, he has concentrated on the acoustic music of England, Scotland, Ireland and North America, and has been fascinated by the way that distinctive local and regional styles of acoustic music have developed in different locations. His most recent recordings, Atlantic Highway, are available from Old Bridge Music.

He is also a Professor of History and has written extensively on the great nineteenth-century designer William Morris. He was a consultant to the Victoria & Albert Museum’s William Morris centenary exhibition in 1996, and is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.

He is an expert on the history of the guitar, and specializes in acoustic amplification and the restoration of high-end and vintage instruments. Many examples of his work can be found on his website, JP Guitars.
