January 2005 tour of Germany
updated 2 February 2005

Every year we do a German tour in January. It's a terrific country to work in because the tours are always well arranged, the concerts are uniformly well organised and travelling around is a piece of cake. About the only downside is that it is invariably cold. Mind you, after the trip to Austria last month we're starting to get used to it!

Here are a few pictures that we've taken along the way...

We spent a couple of days in Berlin last week, our first visit for ten years.
Máire on the steps of the completely refurbished Reichstag (parliament building) while round the back lots of extremely clean & shiny black cars await their passengers.

Mercedes, Audis and BMWs
in a surprisingly ragged line.

The radio tower was a distinctive
landmark of the old East Berlin

The Jewish memorial being built
just next to Brandenburg Gate

Meiningen's a very attractive town in Thuringia. The church (right)  was the venue for the concert on Sunday 23rd.

People arriving for the 5pm show...by the time they all
came out again at 7.30 there was snow everywhere.

Coburg is a really beautiful place, full of fabulous buildings and some very impressive palaces...

This is Schloss Ehrenburg...not a bad place to live.
The town's most famous son, one Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg. This statue was paid for by his widow, Queen Victoria.

Another splendid facade...
Bamberg is an astonishing city. Apparently there are over 3000 buildings here older than 300 years.
