This jig is to be found in the renowned collection of Irish music and song made by the remarkable Canon James Goodman (1828 – 1895).
A native speaker of Irish, Goodman was born in Dingle and grew up in Ventry, Co Kerry. He studied at Trinity College, Dublin and became a clergyman in the Church of Ireland. He spent most of his clerical life in West Cork, initially at Creagh Parish, between Baltimore and Skibbereen, then at Ardgroom on the Beara Peninsula, and finally as a Canon of Ross at Abbeystrewry Parish, Skibbereen. He was a fine piper and traditional singer. He was appointed Professor of Irish at Trinity College Dublin in 1879 and after his death his extraordinary collection of Irish music, numbering over 2,300 tunes and songs, was deposited in the College Library.
