Description

This lovely tune is attributed to Carolan in Dónal O’Sullivan’s authoritative volume, Carolan: the Life, Times and Music of an Irish Harper. O’Sullivan’s source was the MSS of Patrick Weston Joyce, preserved in the National Library of Ireland.

The Lady Gethin for whom this tune was composed is likely to have been Margaret, daughter of a Colonel Eames, who married Sir Richard Gethin of Percy Mount, Co. Sligo, around 1725.

The harp arrangement is Máire’s own. It was recorded by her with Chris Newman on their 1991 album Out of Court (Old Bridge Music OBMCD03).
